AOL: iControl’s new neighbors
Now we have both Microsoft and AOL as neighbors. Who’s next?
Oh, and Facebook parks all of their IT shuttles on our street too.
Bling Nation: Now you don’t need a wallet
Thanks to Bling Nation, if you live in downtown Palo Alto (DTPA) you no longer need to carry around a wallet. All you need are your keys and your phone. The BlingTag is a free sticker that actually came with $20, and I received an additional $20 after I linked it to my Paypal acount. AMAZING.
The best part is I can use it at my two favorite cafes: Coupa Cafe and Cafe Epi.
Bling Nation rebranding:
When I started at iControl Networks in the summer of 2006, I noticed a nearby company called Bling Nation. The entrance was always dark and I never saw anyone enter or leave the building. I assumed it was a failed startup and no one bothered to take the sign down.
Now, more than three years later, there’s a beautiful new sign and website. Also, and this is even more exciting, a few local businesses are using their product to accept payments.
I really do live in an awesome valley.
Lunch at Cafe Epi:
Salmon omelet with goat cheese and spinach. I love this place.
Mac user at the table next to me was impressed by my Dell Mini 9 running OS X.

Taking the Starbucks VIA challenege:
This past weekend Starbucks was giving out samples of both Pike Place and the new VIA instant coffee as a taste test. They didn’t have a chance of stumping me. I grind Pike Place beans every morning, and I had already tried several servings of VIA.
I might be a Starbucks groupie.
